Academic Regulations
The programme of study for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education shall be as prescribed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) in Education, and shall be approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the Board of Postgraduate School. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive and rigorous foundation in pedagogical theories, instructional strategies, educational psychology, curriculum development, and classroom management.
Duration of the Programme
Diploma in Education Programme shall run for a minimum of two semesters or one academic session or a maximum of four semesters.
2. PGDE programme subject areas such as PGD in Educational Technology (excluding SPGDE for Higher Education Teachers) shall run for a minimum of three semesters and a maximum of five semesters.
3. The ‘Part-time” segment of the programme in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education is designed to run for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.
4. For extension beyond the maximum period, a special permission of the Postgraduate School Board shall be required.


Requirements for Graduation
1. On admission, candidates shall register for a subject methodology in his/her field of specialization or in another main subject he/she has been teaching for a continuous period of not less than a year.
2. A candidate who is registered to study a particular subject methodology and who studies such up to an advanced stage during the first semester of the programme will be supervised in this during the period of teaching practice.
Requirements for Graduation
Awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Credit hours
(i) Pass all the courses prescribed for the programme:
For regular programme: 30
For subject area PGDE specialization: 44
(ii) Undertake a- 3 month (12 weeks) supervised teaching practice: 4
(iii) Submit a typed-written project report: 4

The Postgraduate Diploma project
The Postgraduate Diploma project shall be in any relevant area of education. An External Examiner shall moderate the project report. The final grade for the final report shall be the average of the separate grades of an internal assessment and the external examiner’s assessment. All the students must submit their project report for determined evaluation at the time stipulated. A candidate who submits his/her project very late during the final semester of the programme shall have his/her certificate award deferred until the following session. The course credit system is adopted in the University of Uvo in which examination of all courses offered in a particular semester are carried out. Students’ final scores in every course is the sum of the continuous assessment taken through assignments, tests, seminars, quizzes etc. and the examination in the ratio
Registration Procedure
where they will collect the course registration forms and make e-registration at the University of Uyo Portal. Each course lecturer has to sign against his/her course in the course registration forms. Finally, completed forms shall be submitted in a file with the photocopies of student’s credentials and the fee payment receipts to the Institute of Education and Professional Development for Director’s signature and documentation. Registration shall be completed in not later than two weeks after the start of the semester.


Maintenance of Studentship Status
(i) Students of Postgraduate Diploma in Education must at the end of each session have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 2.50.
(ii) A student who fails a course shall be allowed to repeat the course in the next applicable semester (first or second) if a student fails a repeat course, the student shall be advised to withdraw from the programme.
Withdrawal – A student shall be required to withdraw if he/she:
(i) Fails repeat course:
(ii) Earns CGPA below 2.50 at the end of a session.
(d) Attendance in order to be eligible for examination a student shall have attended a minimum of 75% of the total period of formal instruction delivered for the course.
Course Evaluation
Continuous assessment and written examination shall be given for every course at the end of each semester.
(a) Continuous Assessment
(i) Continuous assessment shall be done through essay tests, term papers, tutorial exercises, quizzes and take home assignments.
(ii) Continuous assessment scores shall constitute 30% of the final marks.
(b) Examination
(i) Each course shall be taught and examined at the end of the semester in which it is offered.
(ii) All postgraduate diploma written examination shall last for a minimum of two (2) hours.
(iii) The minimum pass mark in any course shall be 50%, which is grade “C”.

(iii) The minimum pass mark in any course shall be 50%, which is grade “C”.
(iv) Examination shall be 70% of the total course score of 100%.
Grading System
A 4-point grading system shall be used in computing students’ results. The Grade Point Average (GPA) system shall be used to determine a student’s standing at the end of every semester as shown in Table 1.

Presentation of Results
Results shall be subject to internal moderation at Board of Institute level before presentation to the Postgraduate School Board for consideration and final presentation to the University Senate for approval.
Certification
Certification shall take place following successful fulfillment of programme requirements. The class of Diploma shall be determined by the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) earned at the end of the programme for all Postgraduate Diplomas in Education as shown in Table 2

Board of Examiners
(i) There shall be a Board of Examiners, consisting of the Director of the Institute, who shall be the Chairman, and the other examiners for all the courses.
(ii) The list of members of the Board of Examiners shall be subject to the approval by the Board of the Institute of Education.
(iii) The results of the Postgraduate Diploma examination for each semester during the academic year shall be submitted by Examination Officer through the Director to the Board of the nstitute in prescribed format for consideration and final presentation to the Postgraduate School Board.
